Oogein (Ujjain) is in the Malwa region, one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism, situated on the Shipra River. It was the seat of the Scindia rulers before Gwalior and had a long history as a centre of learning and astronomical observation. Ujjain (as it is known now) is located at 23°10´ N, 75°47´ E and is in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Briefly, this was the capital of the Scindia state before it was moved to Gwalior.
