Muzaffarnagar (the Mozaffurnuggur of early records) is a city in the upper Ganges–Yamuna doab of western Uttar Pradesh, headquarters of its district in the fertile sugar tract north of Meerut. It was a market and administrative town of the doab. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a district post town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the mail of the upper doab.
