INDIA, Merut, 1815, "MERUT/Pt. Pd." Handstamp (Giles 2). Bold and complete oval strike with manuscript "27 May 1815" date and "1 1" rate (1r1a) on back of folded letter, addressed to Calcutta, red Calcutta Jun. 10 arrival backstamp over fold (Giles G2), Very Fine, noted as scarce by Giles, also thirteen years earlier than reported by Giles (strikes in black recorded 1828-31), rarely encountered this well-struck
