Description
1838: H.G. H.G.2: Letter from LUCKNOW [2 Mar.] to SAUGOR. Postage prepaid at LUCKNOW The "LUCKNOW / POST PAID" above, measuring 51 mm x 34 mm, was impressed in black during 1809-1835, and probably up to Sept. 1837, when the Post Office Act, 1837 came into force. From that time, the LUCKNOW Post Office should have introduced an "ALL INDIA" type of stamp, as specified in the Act. Instead, a new stamp resembling the 1809-1835, stamp, but measuring 49mm x 32 mm, was introduced, and applied in red ink. The Stamp impressed on this cover on 2nd March 1838.
