Description
1843 Lucknow – London overland entire via Falmouth route, with Lucknow Giles 2 "LUCKNOW/POST PAID" (Size 49 × 32 mm) despatch handstamp in red, date "18 Jany. 1843" & rate "12A" (paid 12A, double-letter inland postage between Lucknow–Bombay as travelled between 900–1000 miles, ¼–1 Tolah wt.) applied in manuscript, sent bearing from India & for that "1/" (1s India–UK inclusive packet postage, under 1 oz.) bearing postage applied in black manuscript. At Bombay, SD6 "INDIA" port transit applied; from Bombay sent to Suez via EIC steamer ATALANTA, then travelled overland to Alexandria, from there sent to Falmouth via P&O steamer Gt. LIVERPOOL, reached there on 16th March & sent to London, there on the next day and "C/17 MR 17/1843" GPO receipt applied, & bearing postage collected from the recipient.
