Jodhpur (the Jodhpore of early records) is a great city of the Marwar desert in Rajasthan, capital of the Rathore princely state, crowned by the Mehrangarh fort above its blue-painted old town. It was the leading trade and courtly centre of western Rajputana. In the era of the Company's Rajputana posts it served as a mail town, and its pre-1854 markings record the posts of the Marwar country.
