Description

1843 (Dec 18) Entire letter from Sonaree to Calcutta endorsed "On Service" and signed, reverse with red oval "JANSI / FREE" (manuscript date). Sleeman has orders to go to Gwalior and accompany the Maharajah to the Governor General's Camp. Sleeman was trying to prevent war in Gwalior; however the Gwalior army was destroyed just ten days later at the battles of Punniar and Maharajpoor.
