Hapur (the Hauper of early records) is a city east of Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh, a grain and trade mart of the upper Ganges–Yamuna doab that grew as a market town on the Delhi roads. It lay among the fertile plains of the doab. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a post town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the mail of the upper doab.
