Etah (recorded under the same name) is a city in the central Ganges–Yamuna doab of Uttar Pradesh, headquarters of Etah district, a market and administrative town of the old Aligarh–Mainpuri country. It lay among the plains north-west of Kannauj. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a district post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the central doab.
