Dholpur (the Dholepore of early records) is a city in eastern Rajasthan on the Chambal near the Agra border, the seat of a princely state and a red-sandstone quarry town of the ravine country. It lay on the great road between Agra and Gwalior. In the era of the Company's northern posts it served as a mail town, and its pre-1854 markings record the posts of the Chambal borderland.
