Deoband (the Deobund of early records) is a town in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, a centre of Islamic learning in the upper doab, later renowned as the seat of the Darul Uloom seminary. It was a market town of the northern plain. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the Saharanpur country.
