Churu (the Chooroo of early records) is a city in the Thar borderland of northern Rajasthan, a walled Shekhawati trade town famed for its painted merchant havelis on the caravan routes to the Ganges plain. It stood at the edge of the desert. In the era of the Company's northern posts it served as a mail town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the posts of the Shekhawati desert.
