Description

INDIA, Cawnpore, 1810, "CAWNPORE/PPd" Handstamp (Giles 2). Exceptionally bold oval strike with manuscript "11as" rate and "15 Dec. 1810" despatch date on back of folded cover, addressed to Salisbury, England, sender's directive "per Indus", red Calcutta Dec. 24 transit (Giles G2) and London Crowned Ship Letter and Aug. 30 arrival datestamps, rated "1/4" and a further "8" for a total of "2/-" due, slightly rough opening from seal removal not affecting any markings, Extremely Fine strike, used during the first year recorded by Giles
