Bijnor (the Bijnour of early records) is a city in the upper Ganges valley of western Uttar Pradesh, headquarters of Bijnor district in the doab between the Ganges and the Himalayan foothills. A sugar and trade town, it lay on the routes toward the hills. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a district post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the upper Ganges tract.
