Description

India, Baitool, 1836, "BOITOOL/Pg Pd/18__" Oval Handstamp (Giles 1 -- Unrecorded). Bold and clear strike with manuscript "8as" rate and "23 Augt (18) 36" date added and applied on arrival on back of long folded letter datelined "Bedford 16th April 1836" and originating in London, addressed to Calcutta but then forwarded to Agra and Baitool, faint London despatch datestamp, Calcutta Ship Letter receipt (Giles SR27) and Calcutta backstamp (Giles 15), Very Fine, this marking was unrecorded by Giles and is the only recorded example listed in the Giles census (www.handstruckstampsindia.com)
