Baghpat (the Bagput of early records) is a town on the Yamuna in western Uttar Pradesh, headquarters of Baghpat district, an old town of the upper doab associated with the Mahabharata site of Vyaghraprastha. It lay near the roads between Delhi and Meerut. Within the North-Western Provinces it served as a post town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the mail of the Yamuna doab.
