Warangal (recorded as Warangel) is a major city in Telangana, once the splendid capital of the Kakatiya dynasty whose fort and gateways still stand, and long a leading town of the Nizam's Deccan dominions bordering the Company's districts. A centre of trade and weaving, it lay on the routes across the eastern Deccan. Its pre-1854 postal markings document the overland mail of the Telangana country.
