Description

India, Wallajahabad, 1822, "WALLAJAHBAUD/POST PAID" Oval Handstamp (Giles 4). Clearly struck in red with manuscript "to Madras" and "24th December 1822" date added on back of folded letter to London, England, framed "INDIA LETTER/DEAL" handstamp (Robertson In. 1), Madras Ship Letter (Dec. 25) transit and London (Apr. 21) arrival datestamps, manuscript "1/1" rate marking, cover with some edgewear and small tear at bottom, Very Fine strike, this example is earlier than what is recorded in Giles (1823-24)
