India, Vizagapatam, 1823, "VIZAGAPATAM/POST PAID" Oval Handstamp (Giles 4). Clear strike in red (frame affected by opening tear at left) with manuscript "4 As" rate and "11th February 1823" date added on back of folded letter to "A.K. Lindersay Esq., Assistant Surgeon" in Cawnpore, sender's directive "via Ganjam" , red and black Calcutta (Feb. 20) transit datestamps, strong vertical file fold of little consequence, accompanied by transcription of letter, Very Fine strike of this scarce postal marking
