Description

India, Tranquebar, 1854, "TRANQUEBAR/1851 February 13/Paid" Framed Datestamp (Giles 4). Bold strike in red (slight oxidizing along edges) with manuscript "1 as" rate added on back of blue folded letter to Tanjore, cover with some insect holes, Very Fine strike, a scarce strike of the ex-Danish territorial cancel, Tranquebar was predominately a Danish territory from 1620 (British from 1801-04) but was sold to the British in 1845
