Provenance

The letter was manuscript accessed at 9 fanams (9/12 of a Madras rupee) on the upper right of the front. It must be assumed that it went to Madras and further via coastal ship to Cochin around the southernmost tip of India and on to Travancore and Cochin.British Occupations of Tranquebar as results of the Napoleonic wars: May 12, 1801, to 17 August, 1802 and 12 Feburary, 1808, to 20 September, 1815. The letter were therefore sent just before the first British occupation.
