Saidapet (recorded as Seidapore) is a historic neighbourhood of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, on the south bank of the Adyar river, which in the nineteenth century was a separate town and the headquarters of the Chingleput (Saidapet) district of the Madras Presidency. As a district town at the gates of Madras it carried the mail of the surrounding country, and its pre-1854 markings record the posts of the Tamil coast.
