Raichur (recorded under the same name) is a city in northern Karnataka in the Raichur Doab between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, a fortified town long contested by the Deccan powers and later part of the Nizam's dominions bordering the Bombay districts. As a Deccan route and market town its pre-1854 postal markings trace the overland mail of the doab country.
