Ponnany
Ponnani (historically Ponnany) is a coastal municipality in Malappuram district, Kerala, at the mouth of the Bharathappuzha river, long a major port and a celebrated centre of Islamic learning on the Malabar coast. It handled the coastal trade of Malabar under the Madras Presidency. Its pre-1854 postal markings document the sea-and-land mail of the Kerala shore.
