1827 (Jul 10) wrapper from Pondicherry to Tranquebar (Dutch settlement in India), reverse with framed “PONDICHERRY / POST PAID” (Giles type 4, who notes that this might not be a P.O. handstamp but a field post hs, rated “rare”, and this example used 12 years after Giles’ recorded period of use), obverse endorsed “A4” for postage, addressee name neatly excised, very fine and very rare.
