India, Negapatam, 1842, "NEGAPATAM/Paid" Framed Handstamp (Giles 5). Faintly struck in red with manuscript "20th April 1842" date and "As 5 Inland PP to Bombay" rate added on back of folded letter to London, England, sender's directive "Per Steamer from Bombay, Via Falmouth" , red "INDIA" oval handstamp, manuscript "1/-" due marking, fascinating contents regarding the First Anglo-Afghan War stating "No doubt you have seen our awful disater in Kabul, yesterday's Government Gazzetted announced the Capitulation of Ghuzni (Ghazni) , another edition of the Kabul massacre I imagine will be its termination ...", and going on to mention a court martial of General Elphinstone, referencing forces going to China, and movements of the "Burma King" and his army, cover with some wrinkling and wear, still Fine and rare letter
