Description

India, Naidopet, 1838, "NAIDOPET/FREE" Handstamp (Giles 1). Faint red oval with manuscript "1838 Augt 3rd" date added on back of folded cover to Madras, manuscript "Service" at top, framed "AM" handstamp, faint red Madras "G.P.O." (Aug. 5) arrival backstamp, cover heavily soiled, slightly shortened at side, and internally reinforced, Fine, a presumably very rare marking as he notes 1838 as the only year of use and this is the example used by Giles for his book
