INDIA, (French Settlement), Karical, 1854, ½a Blue, Die I (2; SG 2). Huge margins to ample at bottom, tied by diamond of dots cancel on petite native folded letter to Calcutta, neat strike of red framed Karical Paid despatch handstamp (Giles 1) with manuscript "10 8 55" (Aug. 10, 1855) date added, Calcutta (Aug. 13) arrival backstamp, despatch datestamp slightly affected by opening, cover with minor mounting stains at corners, slight ink erosion, and minor internal hinge reinforcement VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE HALF-ANNA LITHOGRAPH ON COVER FROM THE FRENCH SETTLEMENT OF KARICAL. An India Lithograph issue used from any of the French Settlements in India is scarce, but those from places other than Pondicherry are exceptionally rare.
