INDIA, 1854, 4a Deep Red & Indigo, 2nd Printing, Head Die II, Frame Die I (6D; SG 20). Two cut to shape singles, large balanced margins, deep rich colors, used with 1854, 1a Deep Red (4Ba; SG 13), huge margins to touching outer frameline at top, each tied by dotted diamond cancel on cover to Guernsey, Channel Islands, sender's directive "Per overland Mail via Bombay", red framed Cannanore Paid Jan. 22, 1856 boxed despatch datestamp (Giles 8 var) on back, red "INDIA PAID" crescent handstamp, Bombay (Feb. 2) and London (Mar. 7) transit datestamps, manuscript "1/8" rate, cover with some slight soiling VERY FINE EXAMPLES OF THE 4-ANNAS LITHOGRAPH SECOND PRINTING WITH A ONE-ANNA ON COVER TO THE CHANNEL ISLANDS. The Cannanore datestamp varies slightly to what is illustrated in the Giles book. Giles 8 only has the "18" preset whereas this strike has the entire dateslug ("1856 January 22") added.
