Description

Entire written by Capt P.A Agnew on the day before Tippoo Sultan made peace at Seringapatam - cover endorsed "Camp PP (Post Paid) 4 fannam" to Edinburgh under Consignee's mail or by hand. Rare contents stating "We have agreed on terms of Peace highly advantageous to the State, the terms dictated by us at the gates of the Capital of Tippoo, & the alternative if he did not accept them was certain ruin. a great Battle fixed our superiority by a decided Victory he thought all further Contention vain. If he keeps faith, & for this we have his sons as hostages the war is well concluded."
