Description

India, 1854, ½a Blue, Die I (2; SG 2). Large to full margins, cancelled by "94" diamond grid cancel with light strike of "Vingoria Paid" handstamp (unrecorded in Giles) with manuscript "9-1-56" date inserted on large part of small native cover from Goa to Bombay with "GOA/P.P." boxed handstamp FINE AND EXCEPTIONALLY SCARCE. A RARE COVER ORIGINATING IN PORTUGUESE GOA AND SENT VIA VINGORIA WITH A 1854 HALF-ANNA LITHOGRAPH FROM DIE I. Since Goa did not have a British post office (only Damaun) this cover likely was taken to the border of Portuguese India and placed in the mails at Vengurla with the ½a paying the internal rate to Bombay. Ex Dr. Kornan and "Magnolia". With 1990 B.P.A. certificate.
