"CORoMARITIMO" Handstamp. Bold and complete strike of straightline handstamp on folded letter datelined Goa Mar. 13, 1820 and addressed to Lisbon, Portugal, rated "80" reis due on arrival VERY FINE STRIKE OF THE RARE "COROMARITIMO" STRAIGHTLINE FROM GOA. ONLY THREE EXAMPLES ARE THOUGHT TO EXIST--THIS IS THE FINEST STRIKE KNOWN. This "Maritime Mail" handstamp is similar to markings used in other Portuguese areas. It allowed authorities to identify incoming ship mail prior to the creation of markings locally.
