x Ship Letter Handstamps England London 1840 (5 May) soldier´s entire letter headed "From Sub Overseer W. Crawshaw, Commisariat Department Moulmein" to Derby, unusually not countersigned, showing fine "soldiers & seamans letter/4/by ship" circular h.s. (Type In. Sol.7) with red arrival datestamp below and, on reverse, "moulmein/Paid" h.s., Madras Ship Letter datestamps and light framed "india letter/falmouth" in red; some minor peripheral faults though an attractive early cover from the province of Tenasserim. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000 Note: The Burmese province of Tenasserim was ceded to Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Yandaboo, signed by the Burmese in February 1826, which ended the 1st Burmese War. Moulmein was the only post office in Tenasserim until 1854 and was administered by Bengal.
