KYOUK PHYOO - PARTIAL CLARET-RED BOXED "Paid" (+ HINT OF "AKYAB/Paid") ON "INDIA LETTER/DEAL" TO G.B.; Fine 11 Sept. 1838 EL (cross-written contents) from "Kyouk Phyoo, Arracan" to Scotland "[Per] Ship Otter [?]" with faint boxed claret-red "KYUK PHYOO/Paid" at top left of address and part frame of another (presumably Akyab/Paid) mark to the right, partly overstruck by "½" and v. fine boxed "INDIA LETTER/DEAL"; backstamps include a fine red boxed "CALCUTTA/G.P.O./SHIP LETTER" d.s. Interesting contents with references to the Cabool campaign in Afghanistan, and; "I have no wish to go fighting in Burma however, and I think there is not at present much chance of it... Spies came in here a few days ago from Ava who say that he [his "Burmese Majesty"] is ready to agree to our Govt. terms...". Hard to read but could repay some more work...
