1836 : H. G. 2: Letter from LONDON [17 Nov.] to Capt. S. Barbe Brown, 7th Regiment, Native Infantry, BOMBAY, & redirected to SHOLAPOOR. Since no postage up to SHOLAPOOR from BOMBAY[7as.] was paid, necessary post marks were applied.

This 17 November 1836 pre stamp cover of British India bears the Sholapoor HG 2 handstamp of the Bombay Presidency, a mark with 1 example recorded in this census — the only surviving cover with this mark recorded so far. It has appeared at auction with Spink, Giles, lot 285, (Oct. 2000).
