An entire local letter sent from what would appear to be Saugor (Bombay). This was the Headquarters of Saugor District, Central Provinces, 654 miles from Bombay and 760 miles from Calcutta. The letter was despatched on the 16th August 1854 and bears the handstamp in RED “Saugor-Date-Paid” in a rectangle. H.G. 4 in use from 1854. The letter was sent to Madras and has the “G.P.O.-date” in a rectangle. H.G MX5 in use from 1837 and the handstamp “AM” in a rectangle, showing a morning delivery.
