Description

1853 (Oct 16-27): Cover and complete contents written from Poonah to London endorsed "via Southampton per West India Mail - Paid", struck with framed "POONAH / Bearing" despatch in red (Oct 28) and framed "INDIA PAID" in red. London arrival cds (Dec 5) and readdressed to Funchal, Madeira (again prepaid in manuscript) and struck upon arrival with "160" reis due to pay in blue. A fine entire to an unusual destination. Note: Interesting content "I have got the Edinburgh Quarterly which seems full of interesting matters. 2 Shillings is a heavy Postage...". Provenance: Robson Lowe, 13 August 1947.
