Description

1835 Moreton-in-Marsh – Madras to Aurangabad, then to Poona & finally to Nornul overland entire, with "MORETON IN MARSH" despatch mark, date "17th Oct 1835" & paid rate "P 11" (paid 11d, comprising 2d ship letter postage to India & 9d inland to London) applied in red manuscript. At London, "F/PAID/23 OC 23/1835" receipt & "PAID/SHIP LETTER/23 OC 23/1835/LONDON" transit marks applied. Sent to Aurangabad via Madras through the Cape route; there Giles SD13 "MADRAS/G.P.O./8 MR 8/1836" receipt mark & bearing rate 14A (3A inward sea postage & 11A inland to Aurangabad) applied. Readdressed to Bombay & then again to Poona. At Poona, Giles 2 "POONA/POST NOT PAID/22 MR 22/1836" bearing handstamp & due "7A" (inland postage for a letter under 1 tolah, sent between 300 to 400 miles) applied in manuscript, and the due was collected from the recipient.
