Horizontal pair, large balanced margins, bold strikes of blue barred "25" cancel (Cooper Ty. 4) on 1856 cover to "Major Berthon, late of Bombay Engineers, Weatherboard Station, River Leigh" in Geelong, Port Phillip, Australia, sender's directive "To be forwarded from Bombay by the very first opportunity", red framed Deesa Paid Apr. 28 (Giles 1) despatch datstamp on back, red "INDIA" oval handstamp, red Bombay BPP Paid, Bombay (Jun. 2), Ship Letter Victoria, and Shelford datestamps, red manuscript rate marking, cover with some soiling, particularly around pair due to adhesive FINE. A WONDERFUL USE OF THE 1854 2-ANNAS TYPOGRAPH PAIR ON COVER TO GEELONG, AUSTRALIA. A VERY RARE USE AND DESTINATION. This cover was part of a family correspondence first brought to the market in a Prestige Auction in 2010.
