Description

1837 Belgaum – London service entire via Bombay & Cape route, with Belgaum Giles 2 "BELGAUM/POST FREE" handstamp, date "30th Sepr. 1837" applied in manuscript, sent bearing to the UK via the Cape route, entered through Plymouth port & there "INDIA LETTER/PLYMOUTH" handstamp applied & sent to London. There "6/4" (comprising 6s inland postage for Plymouth–London, as between 230–300 miles, for a letter between 1¼ and 1½ oz. (6th weight step), + 4d inward India–UK sea postage) applied in manuscript, which was collected from the recipient. No delivery mark applied, but the recipient endorsed "Recd April 22, 1838".
