Description

India, Jessore, 1832, "JESSORE/POST OFFICE/Sa Wt Rs As/18__" Framed Handstamp (Giles 1). Clear strike on arrival with manuscript "4 as" rate and " (18) 32 Dec. 17" date markings on back of folded letter originating in England, addressed to Jessore, forwarded to Calcutta, presumably carried privately as no despatch markings are present, faint Calcutta transit and arrival (Dec. 19) datestamps, cover with some slight overall soiling and splitting along folds which are strengthened by tape (slightly affecting Jessore marking), still Fine, a particularly scarce Jessore marking of which few are thought to exist, noted as "scarce" by Giles
