1829: H.G.1 : The only recorded example of the 1829 intaglio handstruck mark of the "GOWAHATY / POST OFFICE" stamp, GOWALPARA Post Office used a similar designed stamp during 1830-37 and therefore the GOWAHATY stamp may also have been used during the same period. GOWAHATY (GOA - HATHI = "High land covered with areca-palms") in KAMRUP district in ASSAM on the banks of Brahmaputra river, later becomes Headquarters of Assam Division.
