India, Dummow, 1841, "DUMMOW/Bearing" Framed Handstamp (Giles Unrecorded). Excellent strike with manuscript "16 Jany" date and "8a" rate added on back of 1841 folded letter datelined in "Ghat Pipariya, on the Beiwanee (Baitarani) River, 16th Jany 1841" , addressed to " Captain Hobart, 9th Regt Lt Calvary" in Calcutta, red Calcutta G.P.O. arrival backstamp, opening tear just barely touching outer frame of Dummow handstamp, still Very Fine and presumably very rare, Giles does note Dummow as having a post office but no markings are recorded in his book or subsequent supplements
