India, Dum Dum, 1825, "DUM DUM POST OFFICE/18__" Oval Handstamp (Giles 1). Mostly legible strike with manuscript "28th May (18) 25" date added on back of cover originating in Calcutta, readdressed to Major Charles Parker in Cawnpore, manuscript "India House London, December 1824, Free" on front, red Calcutta May 23 original despatch and further May 28 strike in transit to Cawnpore, cover with minor edgewear, still Fine and scarce, presumed to be the earliest strike of this Dum Dum postal marking (Giles recorded 1828-30)
