India, Doab, 1828, "DOAB/POST PAID" Octagonal Handstamp (Giles 1). Barely legible strike on back and manuscript "P.P. 1-4" rate on front of registered folded letter datelined "Upper Doab, 22 May 1828" and addressed to Calcutta, forwarded to Noakhalee, manuscript "Regd 7th June 28" endorsement, red "AM" handstamp, red Calcutta (Jun. 7) arrival datestamp, additional Calcutta (Jun. 7) datestamp for forwarding, cover with slight overall soiling, about Fine, while the Doab strike is barely legible, it is the only recorded example of this postal marking according to Giles
