Description
1818 Bristol – Dacca entire via Cape & Calcutta route, with Bristol despatch, London GPO receipt, crown type "INDIA PACKET LETTER/LONDON" transit marks applied. 10d as Bristol–London single letter inland postage & 3s 6d single letter UK–India packet postage, total "4/4" bearing, sent via Cape route per Packet ship Norfolk. Upon reaching Calcutta, Giles SR7 "KINGS POSTAGE/Co's INLD. Do/181.." bearing handstamp applied, rate "2R2A9P" comprising 1R13A9P (equivalent of Bristol–London inland & UK–London single letter packet postage in Bengal Sicca Rupees) & 5A (Calcutta–Dacca inland postage), with date "1818 8 July" applied in manuscript. Then sent to Dacca & there Giles 7 "D.P.O." Dacca Post Office handstamp, date "26 July" & bearing rate "5 as" applied. Whole bearing postage of 2R2A9P collected from the recipient.
