Description

Siegel - India, Dacca, 1820, "DACCA POST PAID" Oval Handstamp (Giles 3). Mostly clear strike with manuscript "27 Septr" date marking on back of folded cover to Jessore, internal docketing indicating 1820 year date, Fine strike of this rare marking, few are thought to exist Cavendish - DACCA - THE THREE DIFFERENT OVAL-FRAMED “POST PAID” TYPES INC. AN INDIA LETTER TO G.B.; 1820 pair of Es to Nuddea/Jessore(?) with mainly fine to very fine “DACCA/POST PAID” marks with upright or inverted “POST PAID” (HG3 & HG5; latter across the join); plus 10 Jan. 1829 E to London with a mainly very fine scarce doublering “DACCA/+POST PAID+” on the flap and a fine red boxed “PORTSMOUTH/INDIA LETTER” on the front.
