Description

Calcutta: 1830 (29 May) entire letter from Rugby showing, on reverse, a superb strike of the framed "Inld Ptge/Ship Do/(1/2) As 2" (HG SR16), the sole recorded example, and Calcutta G.P.O. c.d.s. in red, both struck across join. Note: A Calcutta G.P.O. Notice of 1 January 1830 stated that "letters not exceeding half a Sicca Weight are to be charged for at half the amount levied upon a single letter". A Calcutta G.P.O. Notice of 20 October 1830 revoked this rate stating that "All letters being less than one Sicca Weight are henceforth to be charged according to the rates for Single Letters, Half Letters being abolished".
