1819, May 25. Calcutta - London. Beautifully written 4 page letter from the Siddons correspondence with family news and some political news, viz. the demise of Lord Ellenbrough; investiture of Sir Thomas Hislop, CIC Madras, with the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Bath; the writer's successor at Bencoolen, Sir Stamford Raffles '... is making vast efforts to create a name for himself to the Eastward. I think that his acts will bring on hostilities on the part of the Dutch,...'Cover with VF double-circle 'CALCUTTA . POST . NOT . PAID' in black, overstruck by boxed 'INDIA LETTER / DEAL' also in black. rated 2/- on arrival.
