Description
Siegel - India, Bhauglepoor, 1825, "BHAUGULPORE POST OFFICE/18__" Double-Oval Handstamp (Giles 4). Bold strike with manuscript "pp 6as (+) ship pd 2as (=) 8 as" rate and "29 June (18) 25" date added on back of folded letter to London, England, framed "INDIA LETTER/PORTSMOUTH" handstamp (Robertson In. 3), two Calcutta (Jul. 4, Giles SD8a and G8) transit and London (Jan. 31) arrival datestamps, manuscript "1/-" rate marking, accompanied by transcript of letter, outer rim of Bhaugulpore marking affected by opening tear, still Very Fine, ex Manning Cavendish - BHAUGULPORE/CALCUTTA - FANCY LARGE OVAL D.S. WITH UNRECORDED(?) CALCUTTA DATESTAMP; Fine and attractive 29 June 1825 E (typed transcript of the part contents) to London with a very fine large double-oval “BHAUGULPORE/POST OFFICE/[ppd 6as/ship P 2as/29 June.1825]” (HG Type 4; tiny fault to frame due to seal) nicely placed on the top flap beside an unusual mainly very fine octagon-boxed “CALCUTTA/G.P.O.” d.s. (4 July) which appears to be the “SHIP LETTER” type (HG SD9) but with those two words omitted (unrecorded?), and with a very fine boxed “INDIA LETTER/PORTSMOUTH” on the front with 2-ring Calcutta c.d.s.
